D.S.S. AND BASIC FUNERAL SPECIFICATION

The Basic Funeral (£1195 plus disbursements) is the same as the D.S.S. specification funeral as specified below.

If you are the nearest surviving relative of the deceased and you receive a qualifying benefit from the D.S.S., you may be eligible foe assistance towards the funeral cost in the form of a D.S.S. grant/ funeral payment from the social fund - provided that there are no closer or relatives of equal standing to yourself who do not receive a qualifying benefit and provided that you are responsible for the funeral and you complete and submit the D.S.S. claim form (that you must obtain from the D.S.S.) and the D.S.S. deem you eligible for benefit. If you are successful in your claim the maximum D.S.S. grant will be £700 towards the funeral costs plus the allowable disbursements for either burial or cremation. This means that even if the D.S.S. pay the maximum grant plus allowable disbursements and you have the basic funerals specified you will be personally liable for at least £450; this figure increases if you have services beyond the basic funeral specification. You are personally liable for all funeral costs if the D.S.S. reject your claim.

The funeral will be arranged on a day and tirne as specified by the Funeral Director. Use of the converted estate vehicle Hearse, Purchase of Coffin. The Funeral Service must be held either at the Crematorium, or the graveside, as there is no provision for either a Church Service or Chapel of Rest Service or Service elsewhere. No viewing is possible. Our charge for this service will be £1195, for a funeral arranged and conducted in Cardiff, if the death occurs in South Glamorgan, and the deceased is a resident of the City and County of Cardiff: this figure is made up of £500 limited service charge, £360 purchase of coffin, £205 limited use of estate hearse, £130 collection of deceased. Please note, no limousine is provided in this basic funeral, and viewing of the deceased is not possible within the basic funeral package. No flower listing or attendance cards supplied. If you are eligible the D.S.S. may also pay the Cardiff resident fees for either burial or cremation. In the case of burial this represents either the purchase of a one depth grave, or the opening of an existing grave; the D.S.S. will not usually pay for the removal or re-instatement of any existing memorial, nor will they pay for the provision of a new memorial.

It must be understood that disbursements are in addition to the £1195 basic cost.
In the case of Cremation the D.S.S. will only pay for scattering of the remains on the Garden of Remembrance.

It may well be the case that the basic or D.S.S. funded specification funeral is not to your requirements. We will of course be able to meet your needs, but unfortunately it will mean that you personally will incur additional charges that the D.S.S. will not pay. You may wish to consider using the D.S.S. payment as a grant towards the overall cost of the service and paying the balance necessary to provide the funeral service that you want. We can advise you of the total of these additional costs, which must be paid for in advance of the funeral occurring. It is necessary for you to pay these additional costs in advance for us to ensure that you are not committing yourself to expenses that you cannot reasonably accept responsibility for. We wish to protect you for debt.

Alternatively you can opt for the D.S.S. specification, which assuming you are deemed eligible for a funeral payment from the Social Fund, will mean you incur at least £500 cost to yourself. If you are not eligible for the D.S.S. grant, the full basic funeral cost must be paid in advance.
N.B. Disbursements must be paid at time of instructing us in the arrangements.
